The Baltic Sea Anomaly Alien Ship or Just a Rock?

The Baltic Sea Anomaly Alien Ship or Just a Rock?

Is there really a Millennium Falcon-shaped object sitting at the bottom of the Baltic Sea — or is this just another case of the internet seeing aliens where there are only rocks?

In 2011, the Swedish OceanX diving team captured a strange sonar image while treasure hunting in the Gulf of Bothnia. The circular formation, complete with what looks like a runway leading into it, quickly became known as the Baltic Sea Anomaly. Tabloid headlines, UFO speculation, and appearances on shows like the Joe Rogan podcast fueled theories ranging from sunken UFOs to ancient or non-human technology.

Former British UFO investigator Nick Pope has weighed in on cases like this, highlighting how unexplained phenomena often sit at the intersection of mystery, media, and misinterpretation.

But when geologists and scientists examined the evidence — including rock samples analyzed by Stockholm University — the conclusions were far less exotic. Glacial movement, natural rock formations, and poor sonar imaging appear to explain what many wanted to believe was something more.

So is this a crashed spaceship… or just a rock that looks cool on sonar?

Let’s break it down.
